Green Trails Ontario launch

We are thrilled to share that Trans Canada Trail Ontario (TCTO) has grown into “Green Trails Ontario (GTO),” marking an exciting new chapter focused on making Ontario’s trails more sustainable and enriching for all who enjoy them. Our renewed mandate empowers us to connect with more Ontarians in championing climate adaptation, strengthening ecological resilience, and promoting the health of citizens. We are no longer constrained by Trans Canada Trail branding and mandate.

The completion of the Trans Canada Trail connections presents an opportunity for us to engage with the broader trail community and address the relevant environmental issues. We began by recognizing the trail environments as part of the larger landscape, their connections to people’s health, and their adaptation capabilities to the changing climate.  We reviewed our organizational capacity toward achieving this goal in the most meaningful way, which guided us to our new GTO vision and mission.

Focusing on the five principles: Sustainable Trails, Healthy activities, Access to the trail for all age groups, Diverse trail uses, and Educational trail landscapes, we have developed strategies to implement multifunctional “SHADE” projects and programs. Together, this effort supports our new overarching “Green and Adaptive” principle and vision. This new direction calls for collaboration with diverse groups. The GTO team is ready to deliver such initiatives utilizing the knowledge, expertise, and experience it possesses. See our new Strategic Plan for further details.
